Back on track with the blog!

23. oktober 201823. oktober 2018 Av Cubaneren

When we decided to stop our long-distance cruise earlier than originally planned, that choice was mainly initiated by us wanting to sail more races. Between the two of us we also set some high goals; be in a position of winning a world championship, perform top three in major offshore races, have fun with a lot of sailing in the normal days and in general always be open minded and learn more sailing. Looking back on this season one could say that; OK Maren can just go out on the big blue ocean again as she was spinnaker trimmer for the Santa team that grabbed the gold medal in the Offshore worlds this summer. Karl Otto on the other hand has to go out on the race course again as he “only” took the silver medal on the sister ship to Santa, White Shadow, with the tactician role.

Well – luckily it`s not that simple, we`ll be back the both of us! The results are one thing, but more important is how to get them, and one thing that is very important for us is that we do the journey together, build the team that sometimes may be only one of us for single handed races, both of us in doublehanded or Snipe dinghy races, the clubs team in League sailing that nowadays normally are held in J/70 or the fully crewed around the can racing team in bigger boats.

We moved out of Cubaneren, one year ago. About the same time, we moved onboard our new “apartment”, the Catana 44 OctoPus. We are often presenting the boat as one of the fastest homes, which is something that suits us well. We are actually a bit surprised about the sailing abilities of the boat, in the whole wind range of strength and angles.

Over the last year we have both started in new jobs, we are meeting new people and are extending our horizons in many ways. All in all, life is smiling! We still have a feeling of being on tour since we kind of never got back home… Well Maren has been living in Norway for most of the last year and Denmark is not really that far away, but we have figured out that we will keep updating our blog. It will still be our own diary that we invite friends and family to follow what we are doing.

Next stories will be:
– Renaming of our blog
– Sailing season 2018
– Projects this far on OctoPus
– Sail set-up on OctoPus
– Plans for 2019 sailing season
– Or maybe we will come up with other suitable headlines!
