For Sale!?

2. august 2017 Av Cubaneren

A couple of months back we were setting some words on changing plans. The life we are living out now is fantastic and we are thankful for being able to do it. We still have the same plan as we had regarding the route, Hawaii where we are now is our turning point and the plan is to be back in Norway again in more or less one year from now.

Back to the headline; We are both persons that like to have projects going. When we return to the West Coast we have decided to sell Cubaneren to buy another boat and continue the trip. The best would of course be to buy the boat we want to have in that area, but all places with about one year of cruising back to Norway would be good. There are several reasons for this choice. We have kind of done a lot of the important things we wanted to do with this boat. Started about 6 years ago with a lot of work to get it up to todays standard, were basically everything is changed except the deck, hull and keel. We have done one of the big ocean races, that took us to the fantastic islands of Hawaii. After doing the “transback” (cruising sailing the upwind distance back to the mainland) we feel that the project in a way is fulfilled.

The most important reason for selling is that we are enjoying living on board our boat. When we come back to Norway and turns in to the “normal” life again we believe the Cubaneren will be too small. For us it is a fantastic blue water cruiser, and with plenty of space. We would like to have something bigger and are seriously looking to buy a catamaran.

The ones who are buying Cubaneren will take over a boat that is proven in almost all parts of sailing. We have enjoyed her the last year on bluewater cruising. We got a second place in the division and also overall in the first start (division 5,6 and 7) on the Transpac. Looking back it is also easy to see that we did not have the smartest sail set up for the race / rating. In other words, Cubaneren is definitely a potential ocean race winner. From racing sailing back in Norway she has won overall the two biggest doublehanded races and also 2 years ago the Norwegian Championship for shorthanded sailing. With the self-tacking-furling-jib, furling systems on free flying headsails (code 0 and heavy weather jib), and a relatively small sail area in general this boat is perfect for day sailing and weekend cruising in addition to the racing abilities.

We can adjust level of equipment and then of course price level to what the new owner whish.

The window of sale is open from now, and of course we could hand over the boat on the Hawaiian waters from around the 20th of august. After that we will jump on the first reasonable window and sail back to probably San Fransisco and land there around the 10th of September. We will after that sail south, pretty slowly but by end of October we have to take the final decision and continue to be able to keep our schedule, so then the boat is not for sale anymore.

If we are not finding the buyer to Cubaneren we will of course happily continue our trip and on the way south we will spend time in the Sea of Cortez that we had to pass without visiting on the way north. We will probably visit some of the other central American countries than we did on the way north. Further on visiting Jamaica and Cuba will be great, and after that we still have the East Coast of US where we have not been before either. Maybe we can fit in the Newport to Bermuda race next June? In other words – no point in feeling sorry for us if our sales plan does not work out..
